Metal foam competence

The missions of the Department of Materials Development:

The missions of the Department of Materials Development of BayLOGI are the development of new material production technologies and new innovative materials, writing expert’s reports and studies, advisory works, marketing studies and business plans, screening of industrial problems and giving appropriate solutions on the field. The department has wide international relations with the research institutes and universities of Japan, Germany, Austria, Canada, USA, Switzerland, Great Brittan ad Spain. Our aim to serve besides the Hungarian, the foreign industry as well with technology development and problem solving. We would like to participate in the master, PhD and postdoc education. Summer and TDK students are also welcome. Our prior research filed is the cellular materials within this new aluminium metal foam prototype and development of a manual metal foaming equipment are in focus. Our recent industrial projects are encapsulation of antibacterial nanopowders into nonmetallic materials, development of ink powders and slurry technologies for ceramics.

About metal foams:

Metal foams belong to the family of cellular materials, at least 70% of their volume is gas. Our research at Bay-Logi focuses on development of cost effective, easily processable metal foams and foamable precursor materials. We produce metal foams from aluminium but titan, silver, and steel foam research is already started. Our main development is a metal foaming technology (MicroMetFoam) making submillimetre and micrometre pore size metal foam using oscillations. We are having characterisation tools from the nano through micro to the macro level.

 Innovation directions

  1. METAL MINIPORE: As a joint cooperation with the European Space Agency and the Technical University of Berlin we are working together to develop submillimetre cellular sized metal foams.
  2. NANOFOAM: Improve GRFoam technology to increase the stability of the particles.
  3. METAL FOAM ADDITIVE: Development of foamable master alloy which includes both the stabilizing and the foaming agent.
  4. METAL FOAM SPRAY: Develop a new transportable metal foaming device which could be used similar to polyurethane foams.
